The Rise of Mobile Traffic

Anyone somewhat involved in the digital world is aware of how the share of mobile has been growing significantly in recent years. After the last quarter of 2015, mobile traffic has now surpassed computers, declaring its leadership. The impact of this shift on your digital strategies is enormous. For example, if your business primarily operates through social media, you will see the overwhelming dominance of mobile more clearly. These insights result from the habits of users in Turkey. Research conducted by Comscore in the United States shows that mobile growth starts earlier in Turkey than we observed.

Organic traffic has now surpassed desktop in mobile traffic as well. With the rise of mobile, the first change made by Google was the mobile-friendly update. At this stage, the only thing done was including the mobile-friendly factor in the algorithm. It was not explicitly stated that the impact of this factor was increased later.

Now, a much more fundamental change is coming. Google will now decide its rankings based on the mobile index. In other words, when ranking, the content of your site’s mobile version will be taken into account. Google officially announced that it has started the testing process in its Webmasters Blog. You can access the news from here. If there are content areas that you show on the desktop site but not on mobile, it is advisable to make progress on this as soon as possible.

Topics Google Particularly Emphasizes

Ensure that Google Bot can easily access your mobile site. You can use the Fetch as Google feature of the Search Console tool, similar to Google, for this. Also, don’t forget to check your robots.txt file.

All content and structured data on your mobile and desktop sites must be exactly the same.

You don’t need to make any changes to your canonical and alternate codes.

If you haven’t verified your mobile site through the Search Console tool, take action on this immediately.

If you don’t currently have a mobile site, Google will continue indexing through your desktop site. To keep up with the digital world, you must make the transition to a mobile site. However, don’t rush to create a poorly functioning mobile site just thinking about this update.

SEO is a specialization that requires constant monitoring and up-to-date information. Therefore, for sustainable growth, we recommend working with an expert SEO agency or having an expert SEO team within your organization.
